The Root Children have been sleeping all winter long. Their mother wakes them, spring is coming! There’s so much to be done! When they are ready the children come out from underground and enjoy the summer. As the air cools and the leaves turn golden and they retreat back to the ground again.

Sibylle von Olfers (1881–1916) was a German children's author and illustrator. Well-known for her blend of natural observation and simple design in the art nouveau style, her work has been likened to Kate Greenaway and Elsa Beskow.
